Republic of the Marshall Islands Yacht Safety Advisory (YSA #4-15)

By Notices

Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is enforcing compliance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requirements of voyage planning and nautical charts as part of their Port State Control efforts. In the area of northeast Australia, along the Queensland coast there is a "zero tolerance” policy.

The AMSA Marine Notices 16/2014 and 17/2014 define what makes a chart adequate for navigation in Australian waters, the characteristics of onboard navigational systems, and details of voyage planning.

ASMA Marine notice 11/2012 addresses issues of Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) for vessels in Australian ports. Also included in the notice are flow charts which summarize the inspection steps and consequences of non-compliance. The full advisory with additional reference sources is available.
