Frequently asked questions Employers

(1)   I need crew. How can Luxury Yacht Group help?

a.       Luxury Yacht Group has been in the crew placement business since 2001. All of our crew coordinators have actively worked onboard yachts and have a combined experience in the industry of over 40 years. We actively market to yacht crew and receive applications from crew around the world wishing to find employment.

(2)   Do you screen crew?

a.       All crew submitted for a position by a crew coordinator will have been screened for suitable experience and qualifications. References from prior employers will be verified however they are becoming your employee and it is your responsibility to verify their suitability prior to offering anybody a position onboard your yacht.

(3)   How much does it cost?

a.       Luxury Yacht Group charges 70% of the first month’s salary for permanent placements and 20% of earnings for short term contract placements. Full terms and conditions are visible at http://www.luxyachts.com/crew/terms LYC.pdf .

(4)   What happens if the crew member does not remain onboard as planned?

a.       We guarantee the crew that we introduce you to and will happily replace any crew that did not meet your expectations. For full details please see our terms and conditions document. Our guarantee lasts for up to six months.

(5)   Can you assist with employment contracts?

a.       We will happily refer you to a member of our yacht management team who can assist you with generating a suitable crew contract. We strongly recommend (and it is a legal requirement for most flag states) that all crew sign an employment agreement prior to starting work onboard.

(6)   How do I find crew?

a.       You have many options to search for crew with Luxury Yacht Group. You can call one of our offices and speak with a crew coordinator. http://www.luxyachts.com/contact.aspx or you can log onto our website at http://www.luxyachts.com/crew/employer_register.aspx and register as an employer. From there you will be able to browse available candidates and even request interviews with the candidates.

(7)   I want to find crew of a specific nationality to crew my yacht. Can you help?

a.       Absolutely. Luxury Yacht Group understands that with international travel you may require crew that carry a specific passport or speak a specific language. We can source crew from all over the world to meet your requirements. Luxury Yacht Group is however committed to observing the principles of equal employment opportunity and we will make a selection of candidates for you without regard to race, color, religion, age, disability, sex, or veteran status.

(8)   How long does it take to find crew?

a.       The search can move as quickly or slowly as you wish however we find that starting to look for crew more than four weeks before the start date is not productive and looking for crew with less than a week before they must start becomes a little frantic. Ideally contact us two to three weeks prior to needing the crew member onboard your yacht.

(9)   What benefits should I offer my crew?

a.       If you are looking for your crew to remain onboard for a long time you must offer a competitive benefits package in addition to a great salary.

                                                                           i.      Four weeks paid vacation

ii.      One flight back to their home country per year (value can be capped)

                                                                        iii.      Medical insurance

                                                                       iv.      Dental insurance

                                                                         v.      Training allocation (budget for training or provide extra time off each year)

(10)           How big a problem is illegal drug use amongst yacht crew?

a.       The majority of the industry is clean and professional however there are some drug users within this industry, as with every industry, who can cause the yacht owner problems. You should want to run a zero tolerance vessel (The implications for not are the instant loss of your yacht in certain countries). Luxury Yacht Group can provide pre-employment hair testing for illegal drugs and offers an asset protection plan that includes K9 searches of your vessel along with regular drug tests for the crew. Maintaining a drug free workplace is, under most flag states, the obligation of the owner and captain.
