The Northern Islands consist of Grand Bahama and the Abacos. Grand Bahama was discovered in 1513 by the Spanish and named meaning great shallows, as part of the shallow sea. It is more than just resorts and entertainment, including three national parks and an incredible resource of marine life. The Abaco Islands have naturally protected waters and dozens of offshore cays covering over 130 square miles of aquamarine water. The Abacos are a pleasure to yachtsmen and fishing enthusiasts. With its numerous offshore cays and reef protected waters,it is abound with fish, including marlin, sailfish and also has bone fishing flats.
